At Kimball Library in Atkinson, NH we play Mah Jongg on alternate Mondays from 1-4:30pm! Whether you are a novice or an experienced Mah Jongg player, come join the fun! We have someone who is willing to teach you to play if you never have had the experience. Cozy up in the Game Room of the library, share some laughs, and make some new friends. All experience levels are welcome. Feel free to bring a beverage with you.
We hope this will bring some people in the community together for a fun filled afternoon. The leaders will teach anyone who wants to learn. It does require some strategy as well as some luck to play. A small amount of time and effort is needed to become familiar with the principles of the game and the rules of the game. Registration is required so we’ll know how many tables to prepare. Please sign up online or give us a call at 603-362-5234. The following Mondays are ready for registration: August 20, September 10, and September 24. We will be playing every alternate Monday.

August Riichi Open Play is coming up on Sunday August 28, 2011! Open Play is a monthly gathering for Riichi Mahjong players of all levels to meet up and play together. It's free to attend.

The event is geared towards players who are already familiar enough with Riichi Mahjong to sit down at a table and start playing without any instruction. Beginners who know the rules and/or have attended one of our Learn-to-Play workshops - that means you! Come and play, have fun and gain experience. We'll have people on hand to help you out if you need to review. Anyone who has already attended an Open Play event is, of course, also welcome (and encouraged!) to return.

Here are the details: We are four women (seniors- mid 60s and up), politically liberal, who enjoy a weekly mahjong game with a good deal of conversation, light snacks, and, as the game progresses, a little wine. Three of us live in Silver Spring, MD (20901) and one is an expat from Silver Spring who lives in Capital Hill DC. We rotate among our homes each week. When we play in Silver Spring, we meet in the evenings (Wednesdays most often) from about 7:15 to 10:30. On our way home from the game, one of us drops our DC player at the nearest metro. About once a month or so, we metro to DC for lunch on the Hill and a game at our DC player's home. At this time, we would like to add a fifth player to join us to learn the game if necessary, to get to know us, and to sub as needed. Come this fall, one of our foursome will leave us and move out of state. Our fifth player would then become a regular. Posting a "teacher wanted" announcement is unlikely to get you what you're looking for, especially in this case. You're in Florida and you want someone who teaches Japanese mah-jongg. I think it's unlikely that anyone like that is scanning my Find Players board looking for students. You have to go looking for teacher (not the other way around). Is there a Japanese community in your city? Are there Japanese groceries or restaurants where they have bulletin boards? Read the FAQ and get pro-active. Good luck!
