Mah Jongg Accessories for Sale.
Hello. I am looking to purchase a case for a Mah Jongg set that I inherited. The original case literally fell apart in my hands.
The set is at least as old as 1954 as a game card with that date was enclosed. It could be older.
There are five racks, four, I believe to be Bakelite, although they are just brown, and one of solid wood. All five have attached metal counters.
I have a complete set of tiles.
I inherited the set from a woman whom I greatly admired. I am in a Mah Jongg group now and am learning to play.
Does anyone have a case that would accommodate this set?
Thank you.
Madeleine from Brooklyn, NYC

Addendum. Of course I could purchase a vintage set but I’d rather use and preserve the one I inherited. The set I inherited is not glamorous. No bright Bakelite racks, although the tiles are yellow and bright.
But it is complete and it was left to me out of love.

I would be happy to pay for card to be used to play in our small group. I would purchase the vintage cards if it were for sale at a reasonable price.
If interested, I can email you the exact years that I need.

2020 NMJL Cards
Hi Tom,
My name is Kayla. My friends and I are going to learn to play Mah-Jongg together and I have been making great use of your book in preparation. I took a few lessons a few years ago and am re-learning, and my friends are learning for the first time. I remember when I took the lessons our teacher provided us with a NMJL card so I have the idea that instructors may have cards in quantity. Since I live in LA and 2020 was a weird year, I was wondering if you have any leftover 2020 cards on hand that I could purchase from you. I always like to look locally before paying to have anything shipped to me. We’re going to place an order for the 2021 card, but I’d like to get some 2020 cards to teach them with for the next couple of months. I have one, so I need three more. Let me know! If not, no worries, I believe I can still find them online.
Thanks in advance!

Antique brass /bronze grips for Mahjong box
I recently acquired an antique Mahjong set which came in an attractive wooden box. You will note that it has no grips.
(photo attached). I assume it had two grips and not one, but I am not sure.
I would like to restore the box. However, I need to obtain antique grips, perhaps from an antique box that is no longer functional.
Do you have any contact details where I could enquire ? I live in Chile, therefor it is not an issue as to where the grips might come from (USA, Hong Kong, China or wherever).
Many thanks for any assistance you can provide.
Peter A.
Hi, Peter. All I have is all the bulletin boards and FAQs on this website. Bulletin boards where sellers post what they're selling, and boards where buyers like you post what they're looking for. FAQs about sellers, FAQs about sets, FAQs about Hong Kong and China. You just have to hunt through it all yourself.
Your best bet, if you are a collector, might be the Mah Jongg Collectors Association group on Facebook.
If it was me, I'd check to see what can be found in the fancier hardware stores. You never know unless you search!
Stay home, stay safe. And may the grips (but not the grippe) be with you.

Thank you for your help.

Nobody ever asked me that before, Diane. I never thought about it before. I suppose you could ask the League if they have old newsletters. A time machine is out of the question, of course. The only other idea I have is to request old newsletters on the Accessories Wanted bulletin board. So I've already posted this there. Maybe somebody will contact you.
Oh wait. You could also try the Mah Jongg Collectors Assn. Facebook group. Good luck!

Well, then, we can't expect her to do what I recommend you do. Actually, I have a couple recommendations. But we'll come to that. You also wrote:

Of course, you're going to return them and ask for a larger size?
I would like to know exactly what size I need before I keep ordering from different places and having to continue to return. Do you know what size...lets say screw covers or even the correct size made for the game should be.
There's no one prong diameter. You can just measure the prong in question and provide the diameter to the vendor.
In the eventuality that the vendors you find don't advertise prong caps in your friend's prong size, you can contact the vendors of loose tiles (listed in the Tiles For Sale Bulletin Board and at the top of the Tiles Wanted Bulletin Board) by telephone (get their phone numbers from their websites) and inquire. Sellers of loose tiles surely have lots of spare parts of mah-jongg sets (including prong caps).
May the prong caps be with you.

It was suggested that because you buy incomplete sets you may have the box hardware spare parts that I seek.
The set is lovely but the box arrived with condition issues that the seller did not disclose. I've chosen to do repairs and make it whole. It's a Chinese wood mahjong box (9.25 " wide x 6.5" tall x 6" deep) with partial hardware on 3 of the 5 drawers. The seller included 1 additional drawer pull which is 2 pieces, a flat piece and a ring. The flat piece is just over 3/4" long & just over 1/4" wide. The ring is 3/4" wide.
- I'm also looking for 1 protector that goes atop 1 corner of the front door that slides up & down. Seller did include 1 protector. It is just shy of 2" long, & just over 3/8" wide.
- I think something is supposed to hang on the front door between the decorative metal bat's ears. There's a hole there.
I hope the pictures are helpful. Thank you for taking the time to help me.

Hi Carol,
First, you contact a vendor who can sell you the accessories you want. There are vendors listed in FAQ 4a and on the Accessories For Sale Bulletin Board. You can link to the FAQs and Bulletin Boards via the site links, above left (scroll up).
To contact a vendor, if the email address is shown, email him or her to inquire about how to order. You might be able to click the email address (if it's underlined) or you might have to copy and paste the email address into the To box of a new email (using your email program). If the website shows the email address with a 溌 or a 中, change that mah-jongg character to the @ symbol.
If the vendor's website address is shown, you might be able to just click on it (if it's underlined) or you might have to copy the address and paste it into the address box of your Internet browser. Once you arrive on the vendor's site, there should be information there about how to order.
You can tell an email address from a web address easily: email addresses have an @ in them, and web addresses begin with http://
May the accessories be with you.
