#71:

Am I Screwed?

Originally written: August, 2009. Most recent update: July, 2011

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION #71:

I studied X, or I dropped out, or I've been focusing on Y but now I feel it's too late to do Z. Am I too old now? Have I screwed myself?

No.

From FAQ 47:

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Never take counsel of your fears.

Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson

Stop horriblizing!

Dr. Laura

Get rid of the evil poison in your mind.

"Dwarf King" from Sweden, replying to yet another stupid "am I too old" question on the GameDev.net forums, December 2010

No matter how dark the moment, love and hope are always possible.

George Chakiris

In life, unlike chess, the game continues after checkmate.

Isaac Asimov

And there are a lot more wise words about stupid fears in FAQ 47. Now stop wasting other people's time asking if you've screwed yourself or if you're "too old." As long as you're alive, and have your health, and have freedom of choice, you are not screwed. Just examine your options, and make a plan. And keep following your passions.

And, last but not least, check out this great infographic at fundersandfounders.com.
