The Big Finale

I'd already attended judges training in Hainan the year before. Here are this year's crop of judges in the thick of the training session.

Here's the room where the World Mahjong Organization congress is to take place shortly.

Here's the competition hall. It's in the process of being readied. We'll be using automatic tables, and the video crew is at work.

The waiting area outside the competition hall.

The WMO congress is in session. Mr. Jiang is flanked by Martin Rep and Tina Christensen. Andy Zheng is unfortunately hidden behind the Hong Kong flag. Delegates from around the world discuss WMO matters.

Everyone grabbed every opportunity possible to practice like mad for the big tournament to begin the following morning.

The opening ceremony kicks off official tournament goings-on.

Several mahjong authors, webmasters, organization leaders, and tournament organizers were awarded plaques, myself included.

The festivities included entertainment as well.

The tournament hall is starting to shape up. Clearly, we can't practice in here!

The practice facility is in a different building. Along the way are some ponds with decorative gazebos, colorfully lit at night.

I called it a night early so I could check my emails and get a full night's sleep. The tournament begins early tomorrow morning.
